EEW sponsors planting of 750 trees in South Harz region

As a continuation of our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, we are taking part in a major tree-planting campaign in the South Harz region of Germany. This campaign is part of a wide-ranging concept with the aim of taking responsibility for the environment, going beyond our core business.

The concept arose last year from an idea submitted by an employee. In collaboration with the organisation PLANT-MY-TREE®", which has been working on reforestation projects for more than 20 years, EEW will sponsor a total of 750 young deciduous and coniferous trees being planted near some of the EEW sites over the course of a year. As of today, 150 of these trees – including northern red oak, Serbian spruce and Douglas fir trees – are growing in the South Harz region. A foundation from the organisation "PLANT-MY-TREE®" will ensure that the trees are protected for at least 99 years. Regular checks and care will ensure their long-term future. Once the saplings are planted, geocoordinates make it possible to regularly monitor how the trees are doing. These trees, along with many more planted thanks to other sponsors, will transform the reforested areas into biodiverse mixed forests over the years.

The decision to plant climate-resilient trees is very important for the local ecosystem because they are adapted to the regional climate and soil conditions. Moreover, they protect the ground from drying out, increase water retention in the landscape, and promote humus formation in the soil. And, last but not least, the trees serve as a habitat, a source of food and a recreational environment for numerous types of plants and animals, as well as humans.

Our support for this reforestation campaign is another EEW contribution to climate protection – specific, measurable, regional and sustainable.
