From the region for the region
Together with the Saar handball association (Handball-Verband Saar e.V., HVS), we launched a new international tournament: the EEW Cup. The idea behind it is to strengthen international networking in the region and promote cross-border solidarity between France, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Germany.
On 3 and 4 September 2022, eight teams from strong clubs in the Saar-Lor-Lux region met up at Joachim Deckarm Halle, a sports centre in Saarbrucken. Four women’s teams and four men’s teams from the tri-border region participated in the Cup as a preparatory tournament for the new season. The ambition of the participating teams was already evident in the qualification games. Ultimately, the teams from France won both the women’s and men’s competitions and were crowned the winners of the first EEW Cup.
Players, coaches, guests and spectators were excited about the new tournament format and created a positive atmosphere during the games. A big thank you goes out to the more than 80 volunteer helpers from the club HSC Saarbrucken who organised a flawlessly executed tournament.

Handball-Verband Saar (HVS)
HVS is the umbrella association for all handball clubs in the German state of Saarland as well as the clubs VTZ Saarpfalz, SV 64 Zweibrücken, HSV Waldmohr, HSG Schwarzenbach-Hermeskeil and TV Birkenfeld-Nohfelden from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. HSV is a member of the German Handball Association (DHB). The highest HVS league in the active segment for both men and women is the Saarlandliga.
